Mohawk Medbuy and Plexxus Finalize Amalgamation
Today marks the beginning of a healthier supply chain across Canada’s public sector
We are pleased to announce that, as of April 1, 2023, Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC) and Plexxus – two of Canada’s largest not-for-profit, shared services organizations – are formally coming together. This significant step forward allows us to build a supply chain of tremendous value and resilience – and, ultimately, help improve outcomes for patients and families across the country. The amalgamated entity will continue under the Mohawk Medbuy name.
Further enhancing MMC’s capabilities and capacity is the finalization of an agreement to acquire Shared Support Services Southeastern Ontario (3SO), also as of April 1, 2023. The staff and Kingston-based office of 3SO will form a new Eastern Ontario hub for Mohawk Medbuy activity in the region.
MMC’s amalgamation with Plexxus and acquisition of 3SO were strongly endorsed by the respective Members of all organizations.
“As an organization, we must continuously reinvent ourselves to adapt our value proposition to the needs of our Members and the public sector,” said Tony DiEmanuele, President and CEO, Mohawk Medbuy. “Working together and integrating our collective scope and expertise further expands MMC’s centralized data repository – facilitating data visibility, standardizing information and further automating processes. Our new scale allows us to provide Canada’s largest contract volumes and prioritize environmental sustainability and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples within the value chain.”
The new Mohawk Medbuy offers an even greater continuum of services and support for health care and public sector organizations – broadening its geographic footprint and further expanding the value and insight it provides.
“This integration is a bold step towards a strategy for a national health care supply chain,” said Fred Horne, Board Chair, Mohawk Medbuy. “MMC’s transformation positions the organization as a dynamic market leader that can drive the innovation needed for public sector procurement to truly thrive. Together we’re building a healthier supply chain that will ensure Canadians have access to the best care possible.”
“Hospitals have been very clear about wanting a solution for shared services in Ontario that is sustainable, adds value and meets the needs of the complex environment that we operate in,” said Heather McPherson, Vice Chair, Mohawk Medbuy and President and CEO, Women’s College Hospital. “This newly united organization will do just that and will serve us now and into the future.”
The new Mohawk Medbuy organization will be led by Tony DiEmanuele. Over the next 12–18 months, MMC will be working through a strategic integration process to expand and optimize its customer-centric organizational structure to serve its significant national Membership and customer base in health care and other public sectors.
