Health PEI Signs on to Mohawk Medbuy’s MEALsource Program
Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC) is pleased to announce that Health PEI, the province’s health authority, has signed on to its MEALsource nutrition procurement program. In doing so, Health PEI becomes the first MEALsource Member outside of Ontario – one of the growing number of public sector organizations across the country benefiting from MMC’s not-for-profit, shared services model.
“We’re excited to deepen our long-term relationship with Health PEI through our nutrition program,” said Tony DiEmanuele, MMC’s President and CEO. “Our MEALsource team has 55+ years of experience in bringing value, innovation and insight to public sector nutrition procurement. As the program continues to expand, we look forward to the incredible health and economic benefits Islanders will realize through MEALsource.”
Health PEI provides publicly funded health services throughout Prince Edward Island and has leveraged MMC’s value-based contracts for medical/surgical and pharmaceutical products for many years. Through MEALsource, MMC will further support Health PEI by working to procure nutrition solutions for the island’s hospitals, public long-term care facilities, addictions and mental health treatment centres and correctional facilities.
MEALsource offers aggregated volume pricing and access to new and innovative products – backed by MMC’s commitment to sourcing locally, where possible. PEI’s procurement directives and CFTA guidelines allow for local suppliers to be prioritized up to a defined financial threshold. As a long-time champion of sustainable, local food systems, MEALsource is uniquely positioned to facilitate Health PEI’s access to food and suppliers in the region.
“We’re very pleased to be working with Mohawk Medbuy to meet the complex nutritional needs of patients, staff and families across the province,” said Todd Gillis, Director of Materials Management, Health PEI. “Leveraging MEALsource’s significant buying power and expertise allows us to provide a broad range of nutritional choices while supporting local food suppliers and systems. It’s an excellent solution for us.”
