Mohawk Medbuy Acquires St. Joseph’s Health System Group Purchasing Organization
The move adds capital and food/nutrition procurement to MMC’s services
Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC) and St. Joseph’s Health System (SJHS) are pleased to announce that they have finalized an agreement for MMC to acquire St. Joseph’s Health System Group Purchasing Organization (SJHS-GPO).
Mohawk Medbuy and SJHS-GPO, two national, not-for-profit group purchasing organizations, have enjoyed a close working relationship for many years. Since 2010, MMC has been providing SJHS-GPO with resources such as accounting, IT, and marketing support. In addition, they share many of the same Members as well as a commitment to value-driven procurement processes that maximize the benefits to Canada’s health care providers. The acquisition builds on the existing relationship and brings St. Joseph’s GPO into the Mohawk Medbuy fold – expanding MMC’s offerings beyond Medical/Surgical and Pharmaceutical Procurement and Accounts Payable, Logistics and Linen services.
SJHS-GPO is a leader in delivering flexible, value-based sourcing solutions specifically focused on capital equipment and food/nutrition. Their collaborative approach has helped the organization grow to more than 450 Members in Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Manitoba, and the Yukon Territories. As part of the terms of the agreement, Mohawk Medbuy will retain all SJHS-GPO’s Brantford-based staff and maintain the successful CAPsource and MEALsource programs led by Jay Ayres.
“This acquisition is a natural next step in the long-standing relationship between our two organizations,” said Tony DiEmanuele, President and CEO of MMC. “It builds on our pharmacy and med/surg base with leading capital and nutritional sourcing programs – and aligns with government objectives of consolidation in public sector sourcing.”
“We’re extremely proud of what our GPO team has built over the past 28 years – and the tremendous value they’ve brought to health care providers and patients across Canada,” said St. Joseph’s Health System Interim President and CEO Winnie Doyle, “We wanted to see that great work continue and know Mohawk Medbuy has the scale, resources and systems to support that going forward.”
The two organizations consummated the acquisition last week, following the completion of due diligence. The transaction closes on April 1, 2021.
